Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul 1954 Reissue. This was a limited run Japan Exclusive, finished in 'All Gold' and features a stunning 'Light Aged' finish courtesy of the Gibson Murphy Lab - it's covered in lacquer checking on close inspection. Super-rare to find one of these in Europe and was originally imported for well over £7500. It is in exceptional condition and comes complete with its original case and paperwork.

 

This R4 Les Paul is a stunning recreation of one of the most iconic guitars in history. Built with meticulous attention to detail, it brings back the sound, feel, and aesthetics of the original 1954 model. The combination of a solid mahogany body and a two-piece plain maple top creates the perfect foundation for its rich sustain and warm, full-bodied tone. Every contour and specification has been carefully reproduced, from the long-tenon neck joint to the historically accurate binding and inlays. This guitar delivers an authentic vintage playing experience that'll take you back to Gibson's golden age.

The Murphy Lab Aged finish gives this Goldtop the unmistakable character of a loved, moderately road-worn vintage instrument. Using a meticulous ageing process, the nitrocellulose lacquer has been carefully distressed to replicate decades of use, making it feel like a genuine 1950s guitar. 

One of the defining features of the 1954 Les Paul Goldtop is its wraparound tailpiece, a design that contributes significantly to its legendary tone. Unlike modern Tune-O-Matic bridges, this vintage-style bridge allows the strings to make direct contact with the body through the stud screws, enhancing resonance and sustain. Many guitarists believe this setup creates a unique vocal-like quality, offering an expressive response to every note. From pristine cleans to powerful overdriven tones, the wraparound tailpiece ensures exceptional clarity, articulation, and dynamic range.

The heart of this Les Paul Goldtop’s unmistakable sound lies in its Custom Soapbar P-90 pickups. Designed to capture the raw, punchy character of the originals, these single-coil pickups deliver a thick midrange with crisp highs and a tight low end. The neck pickup produces warm, rounded tones perfect for blues and jazz, while the bridge pickup offers biting, aggressive overdrive that excels in rock and beyond. The dynamic response of the P-90s allows for expressive playing, from soft picking that brings out warm, smooth tones to digging in for a snarling, driven sound.

Every element of this reissue has been crafted to match the vintage specifications of the original ‘54 Goldtop. The solid mahogany neck features a 50s Rounded Medium C profile, offering a comfortable yet substantial grip that feels just right for chord work and lead playing alike. The Indian rosewood fretboard enhances both tone and playability, providing a smooth, responsive surface for effortless fretting. Vintage-correct appointments, including cellulose acetate butyrate plastics, an authentic no-tube truss rod, and gold speed knobs, complete the package.
