2002 Gibson Custom Shop Edwin Wilson Music Machine 1959 Les Paul - Faded Cherry Sunburst

Super rare and highly collectible '59 Reissue Les Paul - finished in Faded Cherry Sunburst.

In 2002 Music Machine (the largest Gibson Custom Shop retailer in the US at that time) commissioned Edwin Wilson (one of Gibson's top luthiers of all time!) to build eight exceptionally premium R9's accurate to original 50's specs. Edwin was asked to use the finest woods Gibson had available, and once completed, Edwin Wilson hand-signed the back of the headstocks. This incredibly short run of R9's featured 5A Eastern hard maple blister tops, Brazilian Rosewood fretboards, and came in a unique faux alligator Gibson case that was exclusive to this run.

The owner of this particular example purchased it in San Francisco from Sammy Hagar's former guitar tech, and it is in very good condition for age with some wear/blemishes but no breaks or repairs - as pictured. Alongside Edwins signature it features the standard Gibson serial number and a second "MM" (Music Machine) number, confirming it to be number 4 of the run of 8.  

The specs include the typical Mahogany body, superb Blister Maple top (see the additional natural light photos included as this demonstrates the figuring better than the studio shots), and a Mahogany neck with a more medium profile (a touch slimmer than the chunkier profile commonly found on more 'run of the mill' 1959 reissues). In addition to the desirable Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard it also has Kluson deluxe tuners and its original Burstbucker pickups which sound fantastic. It benefits from a refret and upgraded quality Mojotone CTS pots for optimal performance.
