Super-collectible Ibanez Steve Vai Universe in the striking swirl.

Would be mint condition were it not for a couple of blemishes on the close-up picture (barely noticeable unless searching for them) and some natural ageing to the chrome backplate.

At the end of the 90s, 7-string electric guitars were increasing in popularity. Although Jazz guitarists had already come up with the idea of using additional strings on their guitars to play either deeper bass lines or higher melody lines much earlier, it was the Rock guitarists of the late 80s and early 90s who are credited with getting 7-strings off the ground. No other guitarist is as strongly associated with 7-strings as Steve Vai with his legendary Universe guitar. The famous protégé of Frank Zappa was already responsible for the design of the iconic ‘JEM’ Superstrat in 1987 and the meteoric rise of the Japanese manufacturer Ibanez. In 1990 his ‘Universe’ guitar appeared, and this is the most sought-after version with the Multicolored Swirl and pyramid fingerboard inlays.

Basically a 7-string version of the JEM with DiMarzio 7-pole pickups with HSH setting, the voicing is precisely tuned so that the additional string does not lead to any tonal imbalances. Painted in an elaborate dipping bath process, resulting swirl guitar being a completely individual one-off guitar.

The Universe has excellent playability thanks to the pleasantly flat Universe neck profile, and the Floyd Rose "Edge 7" vibrato system. The toneis of course typical Steve Vai - enormous punch, perfect for fast, dynamic and differentiated Rock and Metal sounds. As great as the guitar looks on the cover of his 1990 album "Passion and Warfare", it also sounds phenomenal. "Erotic Nightmares", "For the Love of God" and "The Animal" - that's the sound of Universe!

It comes with its trem-arm and original case which also in practically mint condition (lock is currently disengaged but its original 2 screws are included if wanting to refit).
