Collectible Gold Elite Telecaster - made in the USA for just over 1 year in the early 80s and finished in the striking 'Wild Cherry'. This is the rarer 'Gold' edition (with gold hardware) and with the less common Maple fingerboard.
The Elite series was Fenders comeback into making high quality instruments again in the early 80s and was the brainchild of the legendary Dan Smith who was brought in to revitalise Fender’s flagging reputation.
This 43-year old vintage example would make a great choice for both players and collectors. It is in very good condition for its age and the body isn't far from mint with little in the way of blemishes. It benefits from a refret at some stage (resulting in the first/final frets having a slightly different tint to them). If closely inspecting there is also a couple of patches on the back of the neck where the lacquer has been professionally reapplied due to wear, and to keep the back of the neck silky smooth (one just below the headstock, and the other around the 12th fret). These are purely cosmetic and do not affect the playability of the guitar in any way.
The design of this Telecaster departs radically from the norm. Firstly, there’s the top-loading hardtail integrated bridge and tailpiece, beautifully engineered but not a typical Telecaster piece of equipment. Then there are the two dual-coil Alnico 2 noise-cancelling pickups channelled through a standard 3-way toggle selector switch to an on-board active preamp, 2 volume pots and Fender’s propriety MDX (MiD-range eXpander) boost and TBX (Treble/Bass eXpander) controls. There is a 9v battery holder easily accessible from the back panel. It has an Alder body complete with top binding, comfortable Maple neck with a medium C profile, pearl button tuners and excellent ‘rubber-like’ control knobs for a premium feel and improved grip. It comes with a premium Fender fitted tweed case to protect your investment.
