Beautiful highly-collectible vintage USA strat finished in classic Olympic White.
In 1981 Fender hired Dan Smith to improve the reputation of the company. Dan Smith would be Fender’s chief guitar designer for the next 20 years. He intensively studied vintage Strats to understand how to “recreate” them. One of the first improvements Smith made was to revise the Strat’s overall specs, and reverted to body-end truss-rod adjustment, a revamped narrow headstock shape and 4-bolt neck to body fixing. This rare model was only made for about a year and had the black Fender smaller headstock logo, F-stamped tuners and a one-piece die-cast tremolo unit. They are highly desirable by both players and collectors due to their exceptional reputation and quality.
This example is in very good condition for a 43 year old vintage guitar - with some blemishes and wear on close inspection (as pictured). No fret issues and everything works as it should without issue.
It plays nicely with a comfortable slim-C Maple neck, and the pickups are excellent, in particular the fabled factory overwound X-1 pickup in the bridge position which sounds spicy and hot. It comes with a Fender hard case to keep it protected, trem-arm and its original paperwork.
