Vintage 1961 SG Junior finished in classic Cherry Red - the ultimately stripped back Gibson design. 1961 was the last year of the guitar being named as the Les Paul Junior, before transitioning to what was know call the SG Junior.
In excellent condition for a 64 year old guitar with just the typical wear/blemishes you'd expect, but importantly no breaks etc. It's ageing beautifully and everything works as it should without issue.
Features include a solid mahogany body and a set mahogany neck with comfortable slim profile, highly figured Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard, 3 in line tuners and an original single dogear P-90 in the bridge position, controlled by a single volume and tone knob. Despite the minimal electronics, the guitar delivers a surprisingly broad tonal palette—from snarling overdrive to clean, biting rhythm tones. The pots have been upgraded and the wraparound bridge has also been upgraded at some stage (the original is included in the case). It also benefits from a refret so this is ready to go for the next lucky owner.
The SG Junior is about raw tone and no-frills attitude, making it a go-to for garage rock, punk, and vintage blues players. This example is super-lightweight at only 5lb 8oz and the serial number is 45581. It comes with a vintage hardshell case which is perfectly functional, with some of its binding being loose (cosmetic only).
